About This Artist

Pandit Bhimsen Joshi is regarded as one of the most powerful and emotionally stirring vocalists in the history of Hindustani classical music. A torchbearer of the Kirana Gharana, his voice was remarkable for its range, intensity, and ability to convey deep bhava (emotion). As a young boy, he ran away from home multiple times in search of a guru, eventually studying under Sawai Gandharva (a disciple of Abdul Karim Khan). His khayal renditions in raags like Miyan ki Todi, Puriya Dhanashri, and Lalit are legendary. Beyond classical music, his Marathi abhang devotional songs, particularly "Sant Vani," reached millions and became a cultural touchstone in Maharashtra.
