About This Artist

Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan is widely regarded as one of the most powerful and magnificent vocalists in the entire history of Hindustani music. A towering figure of the Patiala Gharana, his voice was extraordinary — possessing both thunderous power and exquisite delicacy, capable of moving from earth-shaking taans to the tenderest of murki ornamentations in an instant. His gayaki (singing style) blended the robust energy of Patiala with elements absorbed from other gharanas, creating something uniquely his own. He was equally masterful in khayal, thumri, and dadra. Born in Lahore (now Pakistan), he moved to India after Partition and became a dominant force on the concert stage. His recordings of raags like Multani, Darbari, and Sarang remain touchstones for vocalists to this day.
