About This Raag
Bageshri is a tender, romantic raga that evokes a deep sense of yearning and separation. Belonging to the Kafi thaat, it uses komal Ga and komal Ni, while Re is characteristically omitted in the arohana, giving the ascent a distinctive leap from Sa to komal Ga. This simple structural choice lends Bageshri much of its emotional identity. Widely performed in both khayal and light-classical forms like thumri and dadra, Bageshri is one of the most melodically rich and expressive ragas of the night.
