About This Raag
Darbari Kanada is one of the grandest ragas in the Hindustani tradition, steeped in legend and regal gravity. Its name literally means "of the court" (Darbar), and it is said to have been created — or at least popularized — by the legendary Tansen for the court of Emperor Akbar. What sets Darbari apart is its signature andolan: a slow, deliberate oscillation on komal Ga, komal Dha, and komal Ni that gives the raga its unmistakable weight and majesty. Performing Darbari well demands extraordinary control and patience, making it a true test of musical mastery.
